Below is a list recipes for home made cleaners and personal care items – including our ‘World Famous in Waipuk’ Laundry Powder
We try to make the recipes as environmentally friendly as possible. Our aim is to give you the best clean with the lowest impact. Some of the ingredients you will find here are:
- Borax – alkaline mineral that is an effective antibacterial, fungicidal cleaning and bleaching agent. Valuable as an emulsifier in some recipes. Keeps pests away. Stain remover and deodoriser
- Baking Soda – slightly alkaline. Made from Soda Ash
- Glycerine – (or Glycerol) Sugar alcohol. Stain remover. Amazing moisturising properties as it is a humectant (attracts water)
- Sunlight soap – Derived from animal fats. Contains tetrasodium EDTA and etidronic acid. But compared with commercial cleaners it is the lesser of two evils.
- White vinegar – very acidic. Has been around and in use since 5000 BC
- Sodium Carbonate – Soda Ash
- Magnesium Sulphate – also known and Epsom Salts
- Sodium Percarbonate – An oxygen bleach.
