Comfrey Balm

Comfrey Balm is fabulous to reduce inflammation, speed healing, reduce pain of sprains, strains muscle pain, bruises and fractures

Works best if the comfrey root and leaves are dried. Fresh may cause the carrier oil to go rancid.

First up – Let’s make the carrier oil:

DRIED:

  1. Fill a jar 2/3rds of the way with leaves and root. (1 cup of dried Comfrey.)
  2. Cover with Olive Oil (about 300 ml)
  3. Leave to infuse 4-6 weeks in a cool dark spot.

FRESH OR FAST METHOD: (Not as effective in my opinion)

  1. Fill a jar with chopped fresh leaves and root. (1 1/2 cups of fresh Comfrey)
  2. Cover with Olive Oil
  3. Place in a double boiler and warm (keep under 60 degrees Celsius) OR place jar in crockpot/slow cooker set to ‘KEEP WARM’
  4. Leave for 24 hours.

Now we have our Carrier Oil….Lets make some BALM!

The ratio for making Comfrey Balm is 1:8 (so for 800 grams of strained carrier oil, add 100 grams of beeswax) I generally grate my beeswax to help it melt faster.

Melt the wax with the oil stirring slowly and pour into containers.

Allow to cool and firm up.

Stores for 1-2 years.
